Archaeological excavations testify to a settlement in Varens as early as the Bronze Age. It was first mentioned in 1241 in a sales deed for a vineyard. The centuries-old knowledge of winegrowing can be felt and experienced throughout the village. Enjoy the excellent Valais wines and specialties. Take a hike through the vineyards and visit the ten wineries that are run exclusively as family businesses.

In winter, nearby Leukerbad offers a wide range of snow sports such as skiing, tobogganing, winter hikes and much more. To relax, a visit to a thermal bath is highly recommended.
